Summer Scorcher

Yesterday was a scorcher of a day. It got to 41C ( 106F) and my garden is suffering.

My poor pink roses fried in the hot dry conditions, drying out before they even opened properly. We finished the day with a small sprinkling of rain from a thunderstom, but it wasn't enough to do much good, and with water restrictions, I have to wait until Sunday before I can give them a drink. So I have been out this morning & deheaded them all, encouraging the new growth to return. Lucky there are still some buds that did no suffer too much.

It is so odd being on the other end of the seasons again. I'd just gotten used to the seasons in NZ and we moved back to the states. Too many winters in a row for my liking, but now I'm adjusted again. Can't offer much beyond sympathy and a box of snow (which would be a big manky and soggy by the time it got to you.) Hope you get a break soon.

I thought you were joking at first about the heat until I remembered you were in Australia.
We had -30 below here in my state so the wide difference in the weather amazes me. It is hard to believe that you are in Summer and we are in Winter weather.
Another thing I like about Blotanical is all of the far reaching gardeners we get to meet.
But 106 is really hot and I hope you get a break soon. Your poor garden must be suffering terribly. Hang in there!

Don't you hate that? Sunshine is nice but when it hits 85 or above I totally wilt, just like your roses. I'll keep my fingers crossed for that cool down.

Hi Jenny, I sympathize with you. I don't remember the summers being this hot and dry. Even when the weather forecast is for showers they're so light they don't even penetrate the soil. And I was remiss - I didn't mulch well enough. So I'm afraid some things are going to die. But roses are always tough and they are survivors, even if the individual flowers shrivel. But good luck with it all ..
Cheers
