Pink Flowers

I am not sure what this is, but it was pretty enough to snap. I found this growing in the bush in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, on a recent visit. Maybe someone out there can tell me if it is a native or not. I have been trying to find reference to it but with no luck.

A Room With A View

Being an ex country girl, I do love the bush, and can appreciate people who want live in it. There are, however, risks, and we have seen these come to the forefront of the news over the last week. As a child, I was always taught to live in a house on a hill. One reason was the view, another was to keep out of reach of flood waters. I was also taught to keep areas around a house clean & clear of rubbish & debri in case of fire.

Our country is still in recovery mode after the fires that ravaged Victoria last weekend. Current statistics are at 181 lives (still expected to rise), and over 1,000 properties, countless native animals, and thousands of people displaced. Perhaps these statistics may not have been so high if simple advice of our elders & forefathers was followed.

I wonder how the house in the pic above would survive in a bushfire?

Waterfalls & Appologies

Back in September when I started this garden blog, I went searching for other garden blogs to look at and add to my side bar. After all, if there was a world full of stitching blogs, then there must be a world full of garden blogs as well. In time, I stumbled upon Blotanical, a site that lets gardeners interect from all over the world. Somehow I joined this group, and am only now discovering some of what goes on. Yesterday I discovered I have my own message page, where people can ( and have) leave messages for me, all 18 of them. So to everyone who has left me a message, please forgive me for not answering. I only discovered you yesterday, and I promise to answer all messages deliverd from here on in.

Today's pic is to entice me to think "cool". This is Wentworth Falls in the beautiful Blue Mountains west of Sydney. I am wishing I was there at present as Sydney is having another warm week (though not as bad as Adelaide & Melbourne), and I am keeping inside in airconditioning. My heart goes out to all the North Americans who are covered in ice & snow. I hope it warms up for you all soon.
