A Beauty

This fabulous specimen of a hibiscus was outside the front window of a place we stayed on a recent trip away. Not exactly my favourite colour, but I sure can enjoy the beauty of this one.

An Experiment

A few weeks ago someone gave me a picked flower off some kind of shrub. It had a leaf like a hibiscus, and the flower looked like a hibiscus, but it was a blue/mauve shade with deep red coloured staymens. I know hibiscus come in all shapes, sizes & colours, but I had not seen one like this before. As I do with any cut flower, I put it in water to enjoy inside for a while. Well, this one fell off within 24 hours, and the leaves dried, shrivelled, and finally fell off a few days later, but the stem was still green, so I left it in the water to see what would happen. Within a week, I saw new leaves & some roots forming. So now this is in a small pot of soil, nothing special, just soil from the garden. So I will baby it for a while & see what hapens.

Another Hibiscus

Well, the weather people certainly got it right over the weekend. From a cool top temp of 18 degrees on Friday, we got to over 31 degrees on Saturday. Now that is more like the summer that I know. Hot winds from the west certainly helped to remove all that humidity that was hanging around after the rain, but it took just about all day to do it. The wind is still with us but has moved more around to the south now so it is much cooler again. The lovely rain that we had on Friday, combined with the heat of Saturday are just the perfect growing conditions for my hibiscus. This is the flower of my other hibiscus. I actually like this one better than the pink one.

Hibiscus Report

Back in September I posted about my hibiscus. I am pleased to report this morning that it actually is recovering quite well & is now producing flowers again. Only a few I might add, but flowers all the same. This pic shows the first one just about to open.

My Hibiscus Is Alive

About two months ago I was out for the day at a Stitchers Plus meeting & when I came home I found my double pink hibiscus had been mutilated. It was nothing much more than a stump! All the beautiful leafy branches had gone & I was left with just a few twigs sticking out from the central trunk. Last week I noticed what I thought were new leaves comming, & yesterday I found this, along with a few other green tips, sticking out from those twigs. This past winter has been particulay cold, so I will blame the weather for my bush taking so long to recover. Now the weather has warmed up a little, maybe I will see more new leaves soon.
