Winter has arrived!

Clear nights, cold changes, lower temperatures & no wind mean frost! Frost is something we rarely get in our little part of the world. Being at the top of the hill is one reason, as is all the houses around with all the warmth. Then there are the gum trees in the neighbour's yard which also give us a little shelter. It's not that Sydney doesn't get frost, it certainly does, every year. Our little suburb does too, but they usually appear down the hill closer to the river, or in the open parks.

This morning though was different. The temperatures plummeted below zero & Old Jack Frost decided he was going to visit. These were my strawberries, at 8am this morning, up high on my back balcony where the frost has not reached for a number of years. I wonder how long it will be before we see it up here again.

Dew Drops

Mother Nature never ceases to amaze me. This pic is just another one of those special moments that we come across & realize just how special this world is, if only we just take the time to stop & take notice. This is an early morning shot of my strawberry plants. So what you all ask? Well, on close inspection, the little dew drops are visible on every peak on the leaves. So my question is this, why do they accumulate on the points? Why do the drops not run down the leaf, or accumulate somewhere else? Only Mother Nature would know the answer.

Recovering Strawberries

With the hot weather last week and then a few showers of rain, my strawberry plants have been getting a hiding. The rain however has let them recover & they are producing flowers again already. I just have to keep the snails away.

First In, First Served

With temperatures reaching over 30 degrees yesterday I thought I would check & see how ripe my strawberry had become. Someone had been before me & was actually having a wonderfull feast, buried right down inside the strawberry. It looked like an earwig, which I quickly removed, & the above strawberry was part of my breakfast this morning , minus the holes of course!

Warmer Weather is Here

Another beautiful day in Sydney yesterday with temps of 21 degrees. It is supposed to be even warmer today, already it is 21 degrees, and it is still only early. Consequently, there is more activity happening. The pic below is is the first flower of the season for my scented geranium. The leaves just have to be touched & the perfume wafts through the air. It is different to all the other geraniums I have.The other thing I noticed is the first of the strawberries. At this stage this is the only one that is even big enough, & if I am lucky, it might be ripe enough to put on my cereal in a few days. I just have to put the snail bait out to keep both the slugs & the snails from eating it first.
